Frequently asked questions
If you’re concerned about the big picture, a developmental edit is what you want before you move forward in the publishing process. This is perfect for authors who don’t plot or outline.
Our development edit will focus on character observations, storyline, timeline, plot, pacing, and story believability.
Our development edit will NOT catch spelling errors, grammatical issues, dialogue tags, and the dreaded coma problems. You will still want a line editor and/or proofreader.
Our development edit is intended as the first pass at a manuscript that has just been deemed “ready for edit.” While we would be your first editor, we shouldn’t be your first reader. Your manuscript will need to be self-edited before sending to us to edit.
Our development edit will contain in-manuscript commentary with tracked changes. You will need to provide your manuscript to us via MS Word or Google Docs Sheets. We will provide up to two back and forth email conversations or one phone call to discuss any questions you may have about the edit.
If the manuscript is standalone and doesn’t build on the previous novels, yes (same word, new couple). We ask that you send any pertinent information we might need while reading. But if your series builds with each book, unfortunately, we would be unable to edit.
It really depends on the length of the manuscript and how much work it needs. Right now, turn around time is three to four weeks, but this could be less. We will discuss upon booking.
A 50% deposit is required when the manuscript is submitted for editing, and the balance is due BEFORE the edits will be returned.
